This is one of the most common and also a very irritating issue on the Windows OS. I have noticed on many systems recently that the Windows Explorer or My Computer is not able to display any files or folder on the external hard drives or any other USB storage devices.

In my research, I found that this is due to a malware which changes the attribute of the files and folders due to which you will not be able to see your any data on external USB storage devices; even if you enable the “Show hidden files and folders” from My Computer’s setting the result will may remain the same.

So here I am writing two methods one is to see that file and another is to change the attribute of file/folder to the default.

Doesn’t Showing Any File/Folder on External USB Devices – Solved:

Show the Hidden File/Folder:-

  • Open my compute.
  • Click on organize and click on folder and search option (folder option in older windows like xp)
  • Click on view tab
  • Scroll the option and unitick the “Hide protected operating system files (recommended)“

Change the Attribute of File/Folder:-

  • Open Run type cmd hit enter
  • Type cd you will see something like C:>
attrib -h -s *.* /S /D
  • Change the drive by typing D:(drive letter) hit enter
  • You will see something like D:>
  • Again type
    attrib -h -s *.* /S /D

Do this in your all drive by changing the drive letter one by one. Once you have done with executing the commands then restart your PC.
