Oppo has launched the online exclusive mobile phone brand RealMe in India and RealMe 1 is the very first product under the newly announced brand. The company has given clear indication during the launch event that RealMe 1 is going to have the direct competition with the Redmi phones, Oppo officials have also made fun of Xiaomi phones for always being out of stock and very hard for the buyer to buy it.
Oppo is clearly trying to steal the market share of Xiaomi which is extremely popular and successful in the Indian budget smartphone market. It’s not going to be easy combat for Oppo or any other brands to compete with Xiaomi in the budget segment, at least not just by one product or in a short time interval.
Xiaomi has achieved its share of the market in India by years of hard work and by releasing the large range of budget smartphones. It would be appropriate to say that RealMe 1 is just the first step towards competing the Xiaomi in the budget smartphone segment, but I should say that the Oppo has done the perfect debut in the segment by launching the RealMe 1.
The idea of the company behind RealMe 1 is not just making its presence in the online market and budget mobile phone market but also to deliver the comparatively better product at the price of other similar mobile phones in that range. If you will hold the RealMe 1 for some moments then you will realise that it’s not just another budget phone, you will definitely feel the better design, premium finishing and smoother performances.
It would be unfair to say just now that RealMe 1 will steal the market share from Xiaomi but if Oppo will keep releasing similar mobile phones at a fair budget price then RealMe may steal a big chunk of budget market share from Xiaomi and other brands.
There are three variants of the RealMe 1, with 3 GB RAM and 32 GB internal storage, 4 GB RAM plus 64 GB storage, and a top variant with the 6 GB RAM and 128 GB internal storage. These variants are different in RAM and storage only, all other specifications and features are the same in all three variants.

I have got a chance to explore the RealMe 1 right after the launch event, the phone gives a premium feel in hand and performance is also smooth. RealMe 1 runs the Color OS 5.0 which is based on Android 8.1, Color OS is the same OS that we have been seeing in the Oppo mobile phones for years so it’s very obvious to be smooth software performances.
There was not much time to review or get camera samples of RealMe 1 at the launch event so I don’t think it would be fair to comment on the camera quality or any detailed feedback about the phone but the first impression of the phone was impressive, I will definitely look for exploring it more.
Price and Availability of Oppo RealMe 1:
When we talk about the budget segment specially for the smartphones than price is the most important dynamics. Oppo surprised everyone with the price of RealMe 1, the price for 3 GB + 32 GB variant is Rs. 8,990, 4 GB + 64 GB variant priced at Rs. 10,990 and the top variant with 6GB + 128GB comes with a price tag of Rs. 13,990. RealMe 1 will be available online exclusively via Amazon.in from May 25th, 12 noon onwards.
Considering the specifications, features, design, and price of the phone I can say that this is the Real budget smartphone with loads of features and beautiful design. The Oppo RealMe 1 is going to be the tough competition for Redmi Note 5 and it is a very good alternative for the Xiaomi or any other budget smartphones available right now.
