We now have 3G services across India from private players along with government-owned BSNL and MTNL. The private telecom service providers including Bharati Airtel, Vodafone, Idea, Reliance, STel, Aircel and Tata Docomo, these companies are offering high-speed internet connection and better call connectivity with the appropriate data pack or recharge. The Governments’s MTNL and pan India cellphone network provider operator BSNL has been in the market since very long back but now it is going to get a very tough competition private companies.

If you have a tablet, SmartPhone or PC you need to have an internet connection because Nowadays internet is speedily making its presence everywhere and very soon it will be the most important part of our life. To enjoy the benefits of the fast internet connection all you need to have a 3G enabled device and 3G SIM. You can upgrade your existing SIM card by visiting the office of your cellphone service provider.

Once you got the 3G SIM card for your 3G supported device you may need to recharge your number with the suitable data and calling pack to enjoy the superfast internet and call quality.

Now you need to have the proper APN settings to access internet on your device, most of the mobile network providers and handset are coming with preloaded settings but if you are having any kind of issues connecting to the internet then you may need to do the manual configuration but before jumping to the manual configuration please consider contacting with the customer care of your network provider and most probably they will help you with the configuration.

How To Configure APN Settings Manually For Different Network?

To use the 3G services on your phone or tablet you need to choose and enable 3G network on your handset (UMTS/Dual mode). Make sure you have enabled 3G and go ahead with editing the APN setting manually to set up a new Access Point Name (APN) profile. Below is the step by step guide to creating a new APN profile in iOS (iPhone, iPad), Android and Symbian.

How To Configure Data Network On iOS:

  1. Go to Settings> General> Network.
  2. Under “Network” settings select “Cellular Data Network”.
  3. Add APN (below post).
  4. Leave Username and Password blank.
  5. Save.

How To Configure APN Settings On Android:

  1. Go to Menu> Settings> Wireless & networks.
  2. Now select “Mobile networks” and then “Access Point Names”.
  3. Click “Menu” and then “New APN”.
  4. Enter Name and APN (below).
  5. Leave Username, Password and other entries blank.
  6. Save and activate.

How To Configure APN Settings On Symbian:

  1. Go to Menu > Settings > Configurations.
  2. Select Personal Configuration settings > Add.
  3. Fill in Account Name.
  4. Select Access Point Settings > Bearer Settings.
  5. Enter the Access Point Name (APN).
  6. Leave Username and Password blank.
  7. Go back to Personal Configuration menu.
  8. Select the Account Name and click Option and choose Activate.
  9. Done.

How To Configure BSNL 3G APN Settings

BSNL with license to operate pan India expect for Delhi and Mumbai where MTNL will be in place. Try to set the following APN under mobile phone or data card settings,

Name: BSNL
APN: bsnlnet(www.e.po for 2g)

  • gprssouth.cellone.in (South Zone)
  • gprsnorth.cellone.in (North Zone)

Leave all other settings blank

How To Configure Airtel 3G APN Settings (Same settings for 2G also)

Bharati Airtel has won 3G spectrum license to operate in Delhi, Mumbai, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh (West), Rajasthan, West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, Assam, North East, Jammu & Kashmir. Go to your phones mobile network settings and add a new connection or edit existing network,

To activate send SMS as 3G to 121

Name: Airtel
APN: airtelgprs.com
Leave all other settings blank

How To Configure Vodafone 3G APN Settings 

Vodafone won spectrum for Delhi, Mumbai, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Kolkata, Haryana, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh (East).

To activate send SMS ‘ACT 3G’ to 111

Name: Vodafone
APN: www (portalnmms for 2G)
Leave all other settings blank

How To Configure Tata Docomo 3G APN Settings

Tata Docomo won spectrum licence and is operating in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh (West), Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.

To activate 3G SMS ACT3G to 53333

Name: Tata Docomo
APN: Tata.Docomo.Internet
Leave all other settings blank

How To Configure Reliance 3G APN Settings  

Reliance Communications has won spectrum in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Punjab, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, Orissa, Assam, North East, Jammu & Kashmir.

To activate send SMS to 51234 with plan code.

Name: Airtel
APN: rcomnet” or “smarinet”
Leave all other settings blank

How To Configure  Aircel 3G APN Settings

Aircel has won spectrum license in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kolkata, Kerala, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh (East), West Bengal, Bihar, Orissa, Assam, North East and Jammu & Kashmir choose 3G network on your handset (UMTS/Dual) to access 3G service Otherwise, you can access portal using same the  GPRS connections settings.

To activate send “START 3G” to 121

Name: Airtel
APN: aircelgprs
Leave all other settings blank

How To Configure  Idea 3G APN Settings  

Idea cellular has won spectrum license in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh (E), Uttar Pradesh (W), Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir.

To activate 3G SMS ACT3G to 12345

APN: internet
Leave all other settings blank

How To Configure  MTNL 3G APN Settings

To activate MTNL 3G

  • Prepaid: SMS `ACT 3G` to 444
  • Postpaid: Dial 1503

Customer care officer told that Airtel has its tie up with Vodafone for 3G net in Haryana circle so use with vodafone settings in Roaming mode.   32. my idea post paid sim with 2G data and voice is fine in karnataka,
    once i leave karnataka and enter andrapradesh my 2G network is active,
    but i get display no internet connectivity,
    i am unable to use lenova tab in andrapradesh for 2G data,
    the same was informed to Idea office, They changed the sim & assured
    that 2G will now be active in roaming. but to no avail
    pl inform me if i have to change the APN setings for each state,
    or if any other settings pl let me know.

  35. I live in Cuttack, Odisha. I have recently purchased online a smartphone iBerry Auxus NOTE 5.5 which runs on Android 4.4.2. I am getting very poor internet signal. My BSNL Cellone SIM has GPRS 2G/3G connectivity. Could you please guide me in proper setting of my smartphone to receive good and strong network browsing signal. I have a google account which doesn’t open/crashes frequently. I would also like to have your guidance in this regard.

  37. In d case of Vodafone , APN remains www for both 3G and 2g under the regular VMC (Vodafone mobile connect) plan. Portalnmms is for Vodafone live which is restricted to few useless services and content provided through their portal + mms service.

    In iOS, in addition to www, “iphone” also works
